aqua and antique white crackle glaze hand-etched bug earthenware ceramic tile - Ema Dennis for Margate Tile Makers
These 10x10cm earthenware ceramic tiles are handmade to order.
During the production of this tile, the clay is rolled out by hand to 1cm thickness and then cut individually using a template. Once cut, the tiles are then painted with four coats of coloured clay slip. Once dry, the beetle design is cut out using the sgraffito method. This method removes the 4 layers of clay slip to reveal the natural clay underneath. This gives the beetles an embossed look. The tile is then put in the kiln for the first firing. When the tile is cooled, it is then dipped in a transparent gloss glaze which fires at 1,060 degrees Celsius to produce an antique crackle finish.
As these tiles are individually handmade, there will naturally be variation between each tile of the same design.
These tiles are suitable for installation on all internal walls. These tiles are not suitable for flooring or submerged environments.
These tiles are available to order as individual tiles. For bulk orders, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for costs.
We recommend purchasing 10% more than the required surface area to allow for wastage / breakages during install.
Once a purchase has been made, we will email a comprehensive installation and maintenance guide specific to glazed tiles to ensure your tiles are laid and maintained to our highest standards.
